Allah has told us in the Holy
Quran about the duty of
Prophet Mohammed pbuh in
the interpretation of the
meaning,

"
And We have sent down
unto you the Message; that
that you may explain
clearly to men what is sent
for them, and that they
may give thought."

Allah also says,

"
And obey Allah and the
Messenger, that ye may ob-
tain mercy."

Clearly the first example af-
ter the Quran that we
should follow is the example
of the prophet Mohammed
(pbuh)
The basis of the Shia beliefs
is in the way the Ummah
was governed following the
death of the prophet Mo-
hammed. The Shia believe
Ali should have been the
first caliph but there was no
proof of this, as a matter of
fact the proof is to the con-
trary. The only proof the
Shia have was an allegation
of the prophets intentions
while he was on his death
bed. The prophet made it
clear in regards to who
should succeed him by re-
questing that Abu Bakr lead
the prayer As is evident in
the authentic Hadith :
Narrated
'Aisha:
(The
mother of believers) Allah's
Apostle during his fatal ail-
ment said, "Order Abu Bakr
to lead the people in
prayer." I said, "If Abu Bakr
stood at your place (in
prayers, the people will not
be able to hear him be-
cause of his weeping, so or-
der 'Umar to lead the peo-
ple in prayer." He again
said, "Order Abu Bakr to
lead the people in prayer "
Then I said to Hafsa, "Will
you say (to the Prophet), 'If
Abu Bakr stood at your
place, the people will not
be able to hear him be
cause of his weeping, so or-
der 'Umar to lead the peo-
ple in prayer?" Hafsa did
so.
